Law of Assumption: The Complete Guide (How It Works + Real Success Stories)

The law of assumption is a subject that is getting more popular with time, and for good reasons — it can definitely change your life if you understand and apply it right.

But unfortunately, there’s a lot of confusion and misinformation on it, that’s why I’ve created this guide. After a lot of research and experimentation, I’ve found out what’s true and what is not, so once you finish reading you will know everything there is to know about it: what it is, where it comes from, and how to use it to manifest your desires.

I’ve also included at the end a few of my favorite manifestation success stories for inspiration.

What is the Law of Assumption exactly?

The Law of Assumption is the principle that your thoughts and feelings create your reality through the assumptions you make. Whatever you truly believe and feel to be real will eventually appear in your life. To use it, you imagine and feel your desire as if it has already happened. You don’t try to force it in the outside world — instead, you assume you already have what you wanted to have and accept it as reality. Once you succeed in impressing your subconscious mind, your external world naturally follows.

Origins of the Law of Assumption

The Law of Assumption was popularized in the 20th century by Neville Goddard, who learned it from his mentor, Abdullah. Abdullah taught Neville that imagination creates reality — whatever we fully imagine and feel as true manifests in our lives.

But this idea is very ancient, older than any teacher we know. Spiritual and mystical traditions around the world, from the mystical schools of Kabbalah to Hermeticism, have long understood that inner assumptions shape our outer world. Hermetic texts, for example, say:

“As above, so below; as within, so without” — showing that the inner life determines the outer reality.

Even though it was not phrased as the Law of Assumption, the ancients already knew this teaching thousands of years ago. Neville didn’t invent the Law, he just simplified it so anyone could use it. The principle itself has been there since the beginning, known only to very few people.

How the Law of Assumption Works

To understand how to use the Law of Assumption, you first need to understand how it works. Like anything in life, the more clearly you understand it, the easier it becomes to use.

The Law of Assumption works because your inner world creates your outer world. Whatever you assume to be true in your mind, with feeling will eventually appear in your life. It’s not about trying harder in the outside world, it’s about impressing your inner world—your subconscious—with the reality you desire.

When you imagine and feel your desire as if it has already happened, your subconscious accepts it as true. And because the world outside is a reflection of your inner state, your life naturally changes to match that assumption.

The key is feeling. Thinking alone is not enough. You must feel the reality of your desire in the present moment, even if it has not yet appeared in the physical world. Live in that state in your mind, and persistence will make it real in your life.

In short: assume it, feel it, and let it come in your world.

How to Use the Law of Assumption (practical steps)

Understanding how the Law of Assumption works is great, but using it is what truly really matters.

It’s very simple: if you change your assumptions — what you truly believe and feel about yourself and your life— your external world will follow automatically. You don’t need to force absolutely anything.

The physical reality (your current life) is simply a mirror of your inner state.

So, to use the Law of Assumption, the only thing you have to do is change your inner assumptions. Once your subconscious mind fully accepts the new assumption as true, your life will adjust to match it.

For example, let’s say you are someone who would like to have way more money. Maybe you feel what you have right now is not enough, then you have to change your assumption and assume you now have the money you wanted to have. If you do that and you persist in this assumption then your situation will change. it’s that simple.

So, how do we change our assumptions?

There are many ways of doing it, you just have to find the way that works best for you. Here’s a simple technique you can try today:

Easy Technique to Change Your Assumption

1- Know exactly what you want

First you absolutely have to know what it is that you want.

Is it more money? Is is love in your life? Maybe you want to be somewhere else. Whatever it is, it has to be your true desire.

Before anything else you have to know what you really want.

2- Relax your body and mind

Find a quiet place, get into a comfortable position, and stop moving your body until you feel very relaxed. You can count backwards from 50 to 1 slowly, it can help.

3- Use your imagination

Once you feel relaxed, use your imagination to assume you are now the person you wanted to be or that you now have what you wanted to have

For example, if you wanted to have a car:

– Imagine yourself driving it right now.

– See your friends’ reactions to your new car.

– Put yourself in the point of view of owning the car now.

You can create a scene and loop it, or just “free style” it. It’s up to you to find out what feels right.

4- Enjoy the feeling

While you are living the scene, feelings will come to you naturally. Your only goal is to enjoy them to the max, have fun, and get absolutely lost in the amazing feeling of now having or being what you wanted to have or be.

Once you do that, you can fall asleep or go on with your day — just don’t overthink it.

If you did this, and you truly felt the feeling of the wish fulfilled, then the law of assumption is in action. Soon, your reality will change.

Other Law of Assumption Techniques

I know a lot of people can have problems with visualization, but don’t worry — if that’s you, you can still use the Law of Assumption.

Some people think they can’t use it if they can’t visualize, but that’s not true at all. Even if you struggle to create mental images, or find visualization very hard, the law still works for you.

Here are a few techniques you can try that don’t require visualization:

The Eavesdropping Technique

This technique is very simple, and it’s great for someone who has trouble visualizing. Relax, close your eyes, and imagine you are now listening to a conversation between two people you know.

Maybe they are your friends, or your family members — just choose someone familiar. Imagine you can hear their voices, and they are talking about you, but the you who now has everything they wanted to have or be.

Example: If you wanted to manifest a home, you could hear them say:

“Did you see her new home? I can’t believe it!”
“Yes, it’s huge, and so beautiful! Just a few months ago she was broke, and now she’s living in a brand new home!”

You create your scenario — don’t overthink it. Just hear amazing things about yourself and get lost in the enjoyment of it. That’s it!

The “Thank You” Technique

Relax, and think about the thing or things that you want.

After thinking about them for a while, start saying to yourself, “Thank you.”

You can repeat it in your imagination, or say it out loud:
“Thank you, thank you, thank you.”
By doing this, you naturally put yourself in the feeling of already having what you wanted. This feeling of gratitude means you successfully assumed that these things are already yours.

Feel this amazing feeling of gratitude and enjoy it. Keep saying thank you, thank you, thank you — this will amplify the feeling. Enjoy it to the max you can; it’s going to feel amazing.

The best moment to do this technique is before you sleep, so you can fall asleep enjoying this beautiful feeling of gratitude. Once you truly feel gratitude, it means you have successfully assumed your new state. You don’t have to do anything else.

Affirmations

Using affirmations is a very popular way to manifest, but most people do it wrong.

They simply repeat them mindlessly, without any feeling — and that’s the problem.
When you use them right, they are a very easy way of assuming anything you want.
No visualization needed, and not much concentration either.

So how do you use affirmations correctly?

First, of course, you have to find an affirmation you like. There are many online, just find one that really speaks to you. Then you have to be in a relaxed and quiet state, and start repeating it.

When you say it, you have to really absorb its meaning. Let the affirmation sink into your mind. I recommend repeating it out loud. It’s usually more powerful for most people this way. Repeat it until you feel the joy that your problem is gone now.

Enjoy it. Rejoice in it.

Once you feel that, it’s done. You don’t have to do anything else. You can repeat this every day. When you wake up and before you sleep are the best moments to do it, because your mind is more receptive.

Tip: If you don’t find any affirmation you like, you can simply repeat a single word like
“wealth”, “peace”, or “freedom”.

Repeat it until you feel the feeling of the wish fulfilled. Then you can fall asleep. Keep doing this, and your world will change.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

I think it’s important to be aware of the most common mistakes people make when trying to use the Law of Assumption, so you can avoid them and get results as soon as possible.

Common Mistake #1: Not applying what you learn

This is probably the most common mistake people make when trying to manifest — and the worst one. It’s great to want to learn about how the Law of Assumption works and about different manifestation techniques, but the most important part of everything is to apply what you learn.

If you don’t apply what you learn, you won’t be able to change your assumptions, and your desires will never manifest.

Make sure you don’t fall into the trap of always learning more and more without actually applying what you learned. Choose what you want and assume you already have it every day — and watch your world change.

Common Mistake #2: Overthinking

Overthinking is a huge mistake. Remember, all you have to do is assume you are or have what you want now. Once you do that, there’s nothing to worry about. Just keep assuming until your assumption externalizes in your world. If, after assuming something, you keep thinking things like:

“When is it going to come?”
“Is it really working?”
“Did I do it right?”

Then you are opening your mind to doubt. And doubt only attracts more doubt and negative thoughts, which will only delay your manifestations. So assume what you want is real now, and then go on with your life. Don’t think too much about it — that’s the best thing you can do if you tend to overthink.

Common Mistake #3: Trying too hard

Many people try way too hard to make their desires come true, but that’s not how the Law of Assumption works.

When assuming, everything has to be effortless. You can’t force yourself to be someone else, and you can’t force yourself to have something. You have to be it or have it now.

Assumptions are effortless. It’s just like when you used to play as a kid — have fun with it. Enjoy your assumptions. Get completely lost in them and have so much fun that you’re excited for your next session. Assume it’s true, keep assuming, and your world will change. That’s all you need to do — no effort required!

Real Manifestation Success Stories

I love success stories because they show the Law of Assumption in action. They also show the many different ways people apply this principle to manifest all kinds of desires.

Reading these stories can inspire you, strengthen your belief, and remind you of the true power of this law.
This guide wouldn’t be complete without them.

Here are a few real manifestation success stories using the Law of Assumption:

How She Manifested Financial Security

She was unemployed, behind on rent, and had no one to rely on. Everything seemed impossible—but she refused to accept it as her reality.

Instead of focusing on everything she lacked, she assumed the feeling that “something wonderful is happening to me now.” Night after night, she fell asleep holding that feeling, letting it sink deep within her.

Then, out of nowhere, a friend she hadn’t seen in years handed her a certified check for $2,500. In the weeks that followed, generous monthly payments arrived, covering every need—and she later learned these payments would continue for life. Her life changed completely, all because of this simple assumption.

Every night before sleep, she assumed the state of being married. She imagined herself in her own home, wearing a wedding ring, and repeated to herself, “This is wonderful.
